When Fox initially cancelled the series after its third season, the show seemingly ended with an episode taking place in an alternate universe, exploring how things would have gone if Lucifer and Chloe had never met. The thing that stands out most in this episode is the fact that it's narrated by God.

After three seasons of Lucifer complaining about Yahweh and his apparent machinations, we finally hear God's rebuttal in what initially aired as the series finale, and who did they get to voice God himself? Neil Gaiman, of course.

Yahweh making an appearance as a disembodied voice is not without precedent, as the exact same thing happened in the comics, and Gaiman portraying Lucifer's father on the show is perfectly fitting, since he is actually Lucifer's creator, initially introducing the character in the fourth issue of The Sandman, which is currently being adapted for Netflix, with Gaiman on board as writer and executive producer.
