10 Times The Simpsons Blew It

6. The Hype Surrounding The Death Of A Character In 2014

Season twenty-six of The Simpsons just premiered, and it featured a storyline that had been talked about for months: a character would be killed off. A recurring character. The word "major" was used, though producer Al Jean claimed he wasn't the one to utter it. And so people started talking. It was Grandpa, they speculated. Then the episode's title became known: "Clown in the Dumps" led everyone to believe Krusty would bite the bullet. It was a good guess, but ultimately wrong. Krusty wasn't dead, just depressed over the death of his father, Rabbi Krustofsky, played by Jackie Mason. While it wasn't Family Guy killing off Brian just to bring him back bad, it was pretty anticlimactic. The Rabbi had appeared in just under a dozen episodes of the series, showed up briefly in the movie, and in some related media. Really, Krusty's dad was too minor to really be used the way the show promoted the episode. Anything for ratings we suppose.
