10 Times The Simpsons Got Political

5. Politically Inept, With Homer Simpson

Much Apu About Nothing The Simpsons
20th Century Fox

Homer becoming a partisan talk show host in Politically Inept, With Homer Simpson in Season 23 is one of the more blatantly political episodes The Simpsons has produced over the years, but that's not actually a bad thing.

The episode features Homer being tapped by the Republican party to select their next candidate after his cable news show (based on personal ranting, mostly) picks up steam. Though he initially gives Ted Nugent the nod, he soon admits, frankly, that pretty much everything he has said on his show is full of !*$% - very much like real far-right and far-left television gab-fests.

Though the episode spent a lot of time yanking on the chain of the Tea Party (who fully deserve it), the real standout is the barbs about the political candidates of the day, including the use of the news ticket to print out fake headlines like "Gingrich looks forward to winning... his fourth wife" and "Rick Perry mistakenly signs order to execute himself."
