10 Times The Walking Dead Went Too Far

3. Morgan's Character Development

Without Morgan Jones it's unlikely that Rick Grimes would've survived his first day out of the hospital. He's one of the first characters to ever appear in the show and when he reappeared in the third season he gripped viewers again as he'd lost his son, Duane, and seemingly lost his mind. Fans were excited to hear that he would be returning to the show as a regular cast member but they were likely disappointed when he finally arrived at Alexandria a few years later.

Morgan had changed drastically from his last appearance, now believing that peace is the only way forward and killing was the ultimate evil. While this isn't all that bad, his preachy approach and constant actions that derailed the plot to fill out episodes got very annoying, very fast. Eventually Morgan's peaceful way of life isn't enough to protect those he loves and he reverts back to his unhinged state.

While exploring Morgan's PTSD could've been a fantastic storyline and there's nothing wrong with a character changing their perspective, it all felt very rushed with Morgan. Whereas Rick's morality and turmoil regarding violence is carefully spread across the seasons, Morgan arrives and immediately begins butting heads with characters at the wrong time. Fans loved to hate Negan, so Morgan preaching peace when all anyone wanted to see was a war was just never going to work.
