10 Times TV Heroes Became The Bad Guy In Their Own Show

8. Lester Nygaard - Fargo

One recurring story device in the Fargo universe is everyday people semi-accidentally involving themselves in criminal activity. Jerry Lundegaard in the film is a prime example; as is the Blumquists in season two and the Stussy brothers in season three.

But let's look back at season one, and at Martin Freeman's luckless Insurance Salesman Lester Nygaard. Compared to Billy Bob Thornton's Lorne Malvo, Lester is a saint. But his actions definitely don't help his case.

If bludgeoning his own wife with a hammer and shooting a police officer dead wasn't enough; he frames his younger and more successful younger brother for the murders without a second of remorse or guilt.

But maybe the worst thing he does, is intentionally sending his second wife, Linda, out to die;

Knowing Malvo is out to get him, Lester plans to flee with Linda. When he suspects Malvo is waiting for him in his office, he insists Linda get their passports and cash whilst wearing his own jacket. Malvo shoots Linda dead and flees the scene, giving Lester a window to get his passport and cash.

In one final move, Lester went from in-too-deep everyday man, to the worst man alive second to the devil himself, Lorne Malvo.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
