10 Times TV Shows 'Did Right By The Fans' (And Pissed Everyone Off)

1. Theory Of A Fall - Sherlock

Sherlock Fall
BBC

When it was revealed at the end of season two of Sherlock that the titular detective had survived his seemingly fatal plummet off the top of a building, everyone had their theories.

People were desperate to know and, after an agonising wait, the new series premiered… and it was a total joke.

The Empty Hearse, Season 3’s first episode, presented multiple answers to how Holmes did it. These included several ideas that had come straight from the web, which was meant to serve as a nod to the viewers, but just came off like the writers were straight-up stealing their ideas.

To make matters worse, it was never properly revealed how Sherlock had faked his death. All of the suggested versions of events were presented as dubious, which absolutely infuriated fans who had waited two years for an explanation.

Sherlock never fully recovered from the Season 3 opener and it's trust-shattering blunder. The showrunners had gotten too clever for their own good and written themselves into a problem that not even the brightest minds of the fandom could solve.
