2. Destiel Destroyed - Supernatural

Back when blogging site Tumblr was at the peak of its powers, Supernatural was one of the most popular shows on the entire platform.

The ghost-hunting adventures of Sam (Jared Padelecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester were everywhere on the website back in the day, as thousands of dedicated blogs posted their thoughts and feelings on what the show should do next.

As is the way on the Internet, ships began to form between the characters with one of the most popular being between Dean and Misha Collins’ angel character, Castiel.

“Destiel”, as it was known, was little more than a fan theory for the longest time, until one day, it became official.

In Season 15’s Despair, Castiel finally declares his unabashed romantic love for his human bestie. Hooray! Oh, hang on, he does this on his deathbed. Un-hooray.

Giving the fans what they wanted only to snatch it away immediately after felt like a huge betrayal by the show and turned a lot of viewers off. Destiel should have been done properly or not at all, as this choice felt very much like the creators having their cake and eating it too.
