10 Times TV Shows 'Did Right By The Fans' (And Pissed Everyone Off)

4. Harmon Hangover - Community

The sitcom Community, which was about a mismatched group of students at a community college, was a huge hit, thanks in no small part to the stellar writing of creator Dan Harmon.

And then Harmon got fired after its third season. Uh oh.

New showrunners Moses Port and David Guarascio had an uphill battle on their hands for season four. How could they capture that same Harmon magic without the man himself? How about a desperate attempt to copy him without any of the flair or nuance?

Yeah, that’ll do.

The fourth season of Community felt like somebody trying to recreate a Van Gogh from a grainy, low-res photo. Even with all the talent in the world, the artist never stood a chance and it was obvious from a mile away that this was little more than a cheap imitation.

Fans saw right through this blatant attempt to pander to them and the show got negative reviews for the first time in its run. Even when Harmon returned as showrunner the following season, the damage had already been done, and Community was never the same again.
