5. Daryl Dixon: Man Of Steel - The Walking Dead

He might not have originally featured in Robert Kirkman’s comic books, but Daryl Dixon quickly became one of the most popular characters on the TV version of The Walking Dead.

Norman Reedus’ crossbow-wielding redneck went on quite the journey, beginning his time in the apocalypse as a grumpy outsider, before being accepted as Rick Grimes’ right-hand man, and then becoming the de facto leader of his ragtag group of survivors.

Daryl was presented as an absolute badass, able to take out walkers left, right, and centre through a mixture of strength, smarts, and resiliency. He single-handedly took out a tank in one episode - that’s how good he is.

As the series progressed, however, Daryl’s antics became more and more far-fetched. He got shot, stabbed, beaten up, surrounded by zombies, and yet the hillbilly hero kept coming back.

This plot armour became a real issue amongst Walking Dead fans, who still liked Daryl, but were concerned that his acts of daring do were now too ridiculous to be believable.

Hopefully, the creators won’t do anything else to overexpose him, like give him his own spin-off or something…
