10 Times When Star Trek Re-Cast Its Actors

8. Icheb

This, along with Maddox, springs from episode five of Star Trek Picard, Stardust City Rag. The character appears briefly and serves only purpose - he dies, horribly, forcing Seven of Nine into a life of vigilantism.

The character originated on Star Trek Voyager, portrayed by Manu Intirayami, in its sixth season. He is one of the Borg children that Seven cares for, allow her character to grow in a maternal direction during their time on the ship. Icheb, the oldest of the children, gets the most to do.

As a young Borg, he was privy to much of the information that the collective had to offer and as such he is an ideal candidate for Starfleet Academy. He begins his training on the ship alongside Seven. In time, he effectively becomes her son, demonstrated most strikingly in the episode Child's Play.

The truth of his assimilation comes out in that his parents delivered him to the Collective to prevent them from being attacked. Seven's anger is clear when she discovers their betrayal and she is able to save him.

However, for his final scenes, Icheb is portrayed by Casey King. His death is gruesome as his body is harvested for the Borg implants. It was a shocking beginning to the episode and a shocking end to the character. That she has to euthanise him only serves to embitter her further toward his captors.
