During the millennium, the majority of people had little understanding of the inner workings of Scientology. Although L. Ron Hubbard’s religious movement took the world by storm in the early 2000s, the exact beliefs of its followers we're very hush-hush.

But all that changed when South Park aired the episode, Trapped in the Closet. This storyline didn’t just poke fun at Scientology. For many, this was the first time non-members learned what Scientologists actually believe. Unsurprisingly, many viewers found the doctrine…. totally insane. In fact, the core beliefs are so bizarre, you would think Trey Parker and Matt Stone were making up any old nonsense… until the phrase, “THIS IS WHAT SCIENTOLOGISTS ACTUALLY BELIEVE” flash on the screen.

Soon after, the Church of Scientology suffered a massive decline in new members, and many Scientologists abandoned the religious movement. It’s also worth mentioning that Jenna Miscavige Hill, who is the daughter of the church’s chairman, learned the core beliefs of Scientology through this episode and left soon after. Even though a lot of fans missed this episode since it's rarely aired, few episodes have left an impact the way this one did.
