10 Times You Can't Believe South Park Actually Went There

Because Family Guy was South Park's biggest competitor during the millennium, it was only a matter of time before Trey Parker and Matt Stone took a shot at Seth MacFarlane's show. In the two-part storyline, Cartoon Wars, Stan and the gang learn that Family Guy has caused a cataclysmic controversy after announcing they will depict the founder of Islam, Muhammad, in an upcoming episode.

Because it's against Islam custom to depict Muhammad, this South Park storyline successfully stirred the pot before it even aired. (Comedy Central were so worried about it, they delayed the episode by several weeks.)

Despite receiving a plethora of complaints, Parker and Stone continued to incorporate the Islam prophet into the show, having him pop up in six episodes. (He recently appeared on Stan's Super Best Friends lunchbox in the 2020 episode, The Pandemic Special.)

Because of this contention Muhammad caused, the South Park episodes starring him have been removed from steaming services and reruns. Even though Parker and Stone have been threatened by radical groups, and the network was forced to beef up its security because of concerns over extremists, it's safe to assume Muhammad will return in a later episode.
