Ron Swanson was the break-out star of Parks & Recreation. A perfectly moustachioed, nominally libertarian, extremely private, meat-loving gentlemen, Ron emerged as a beacon of old-school masculinity in a TV landscape largely occupied by "modern" men. So he would seem an unlikely fit for friendship with Leslie, who is bubbly, passionate about government and an avowed feminist. However, their relationship was one of the closest on the show. Though they disagreed on almost everything, particularly at the series' inception, their mutual respect grew into a deep and touching bond. Never was it better displayed than in the season 3 episode "Eagleton". Having discovered the date of Ron's birthday- a secret Ron had attempted to keep from everyone- Leslie spends a week tormenting him by leading him to believe that she is planning him a huge party. However, when the evening rolls around, she has instead created a perfect Ron event: an evening alone in front of his favourite films, complete with whisky and steak because true friendship is knowing exactly what makes your buddy the happiest (even if you don't relate).
