The passage of time through an animated TV show can become quite troublesome when that show has been on the air for a while. Just look at The Simpsons having to change Homer and Marge’s childhood backstory several times to fit in with them still being the same ages but 30 real-world years later. There is a similar, though slightly different issue with Futurama.

Technological advances aren’t really an issue thanks to the 31st century setting, but even so, time has passed since Fry came to the future and the show eventually reached 3013 before it was cancelled. With its revival coming in 2023, in theory, it will return to New New York in the year 3023, which means a big life change may be coming for Kif and Amy.

In ‘Kif Gets Knocked Up A Notch’, an episode from 2003, the two smizmars had children that swam off into Kif’s family’s swamp not to return for another 20 years. Amy said she would be ready for kids then, but as hard as it may be to believe, 20 years will have passed between that episode and the upcoming new ones by the time they air.

If these children do make an appearance, Amy really hasn’t changed all that much over the 20 years, and if they don’t, then she and Kif must be terrible parents to just ignore their children on another planet.
