10 Totally Unnecessary Deaths In Horror TV Shows

4. Dodge - Locke & Key

Locke & Key's high concept is fascinating. The Locke kids, living with the loss of their father, move into his old family home and discover the supernatural secrets of his past.

But it was the villain that made Locke & Key so compelling. In season one, Laysla de Oliveira played Dodge, the ruthless demon that murdered the Lockes' father. Stunningly gorgeous, utterly malevolent, bestriding the narrative like a Disney villain on PCP, de Oliveira steals every scene she's in.

Now, season one contained multiple twists in the tale, but the most staggering was the revelation that the Lockes' friend Gabe (Griffin Gluck) had also been Dodge, changing shape (and gender) to infiltrate their group. Season two brought us a cold war, as Dodge messed with the family from within.

Gluck's version of Dodge was colder and more sinister than de Oliveira's magnificently extra Dodge, but no less effective as a villain. That was Locke & Key's appeal: brave kids wielding magical keys to fight the demon that killed their father. So it made no sense at all that, in the season two finale, the Lockes sent that demon back to the hell that spawned them, stripping the family of their nemesis and the narrative of one of its unique selling points.

Season three would see a new demon menace rise to challenge the Lockes, a monstrous force of nature played by Kevin Durand... but despite the dependable Durand giving it all he had, it wasn't the same.
