10 TV Cancellations We're Still Not Over
9. Deadwood
One of the ultimate examples of TV shows cancelled before their time, Deadwood ran for three seasons before HBO had it cancelled.
There are a number of reasons floating around about why it was axed, from the high costs of the episodes and the set design to HBO's acquiring of True Blood, which they believed would draw in more ratings, but one thing that is for certain is that the series had way more left to give.
Following the titular location in South Dakota, the show documents Deadwood's rise from small, lawless camp to small, lawless town, and features Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane as a clashing sheriff and businessman. Complete with tales of betrayal and the inclusion of real-life historical figures such as Wild Bill Hickok and Wyatt Earp, Deadwood has gone on to be regarded as one of the greatest shows of all time.
Shortly after its cancellation, showrunner David Milch agreed to make a two-hour film to finish up the show's story, but despite this being proposed in mid-2006 the film didn't find itself hitting fans' screens until 2019.
Deadwood: The Movie ended up being a solid venture, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the show was robbed of further seasons.
