10 TV Cancellations We're Still Not Over

8. Angel

Although Season 5 of Angel was arguably the show's best run, and the ambiguous ending was a stroke of brilliance, it's sad to see that it wasn't allowed to continue.

The most frustrating part of its cancellation is that it really could have been avoided. According to producer David Fury, Buffy/Angel creator Joss Whedon pushed the network for an early renewal, but the WB Network didn't take to the idea and scrapped the whole thing. Fury has gone on record to say that Angel would almost definitely have been renewed if Whedon hadn't tried to force it.

Whedon himself likened the cancellation to a "healthy guy falling dead from a heart attack" and said that he was devastated. Fans were also massively unhappy, and letter writing campaigns, food drives, online petitions and the lobbying of other networks were all organised to bring it back.

Both Buffy and Angel's stories have been continued in the epic but bizarre Dark Horse comics series, but that's really not enough given how much promise the show had for future seasons.
