10 TV Characters Cut From Shows (In The Worst Way)

3. Jo And Ellen - Supernatural

Supernatural Ellen
The CW

Season 2 of Supernatural gave Sam and Dean Winchester something of a home base in the Roadhouse, which was run by an old friend of their father's, Ellen, and her daughter Jo. The two quickly became fan favourites, and were a major part of that season right up to the finale, where they joined the brothers to stop the demon Azazel opening the gates to hell.

They didn't succeed, and the finale ends with the brothers and Ellen and Jo back in the saddle to battle against whatever clawed its way out from the underworld.

However, Ellen and Jo wouldn't be seen again until Season 5, and the show never addressed the absence following the final episode of Season 2. Despite the calvary needing to be called in, the duo barely even get mentioned by Sam and Dean.

Apparently the original plan was to bring them back for a couple of episodes, but when the writers strike curtailed the entire season, those plans fell through, and Ellen's actress turned down the offer to cameo in the season finale.

That doesn't explain why they were absent from Season 4 though where, once again, Sam and Dean needed all the help they could get to stop the actual Devil from returning to Earth.
