10 TV Characters They Wanted You To Forget

5. Tommy - The Last Of Us

Most video game adaptations are a shadow of their source material, zombie stories have been done to death over the years, and Naughty Dog's recent Uncharted movie underwhelmed on just about every level. Seemingly everything was against HBO's The Last of Us.

However, the first nine episodes of the show have made up one of the greatest first seasons of all time. The tone was set immediately with the harrowing infection outbreak, something that will be burned into the memory of audiences everywhere. The worst part of course, being the death of Joel's daughter, Sarah.

In the sheer panic of the outbreak, Joel, Sarah, and Tommy looked to escape the city and found themselves trapped. After an aeroplane crash stopped them in their tracks, Joel and Sarah were separated from Tommy, leaving the father and daughter open to the military guard who ultimately killed Sarah.

The scene was far from straightforward, however. Though he had only been off-screen for a matter of minutes, the chaos and adrenaline rush of what happened to Joel and Sarah left Tommy in the back of viewers' minds until he showed up just in time to save Joel's life. This may have been a relief for the uninitiated, but that feeling was to be robbed from them mere moments later.
