10 TV Characters We REALLY Didn't Want To Die

5. Poussey Washington (Orange Is The New Black)

Bran Hodor Game of Thrones

Poussey Washington was by far one of the most popular characters on Orange Is The New Black, so to see her die in such an awful manner was pretty excruciating.

The worst thing about it was that her death just seemed very unnecessary. The show was desperate to make a political point, one that definitely needed communicating but one that didn't really sit right with fans.

It was clear that writers wanted to highlight racism and police brutality, but it felt like Poussey's death was a ploy to exploit the fact that millions and millions of black queer people die at the hands of the police every year. It didn't seem very honest and instead came across as a cheap way to jump on the social commentary of the time. Something that Orange Is The New Black has been guilty of in the past.

Sure, Orange Is The New Black likes to make hard statements about race, gender, sexuality, and life in prison but to kill off one of their most beloved characters in a way to bring the shock factor was pretty basic, and we expected more.
