10 TV Characters We REALLY Didn't Want To Die

3. Rita Morgan (Dexter)

Bran Hodor Game of Thrones
Showtime

The first four seasons of Dexter were amazing. The remaining 4 not so great. So what happened? The death of Rita, of course!

Rita was the only character in the show that was somewhat normal. She had endured a brutal past and was living her life the best way she could. For Dexter, she was his personal guide and the one that could humanize him.

Rita was there for the audience, she was the only character that allowed us to roam around in Dexter's world through her eyes. So when she was found dead in her own bathtub viewers were understandably angry.

Some might argue that her death needed to happen to keep the narrative moving but in reality, the series basically bombed after that. Instead, Rita's death felt more like a last-minute decision to add a huge shocking twist to increase ratings. Sure, it might have worked at the time but soon enough writers struggled to figure out a show without its moral compass.
