10 TV Characters We REALLY Didn't Want To Die
2. Matthew Crawley (Downton Abbey)
There is no denying that Downton Abbey loves a bit of depressing drama. First, you've got the death of poor Lady Sybil who dies of eclampsia after giving birth. Then the family dies in one of the most heartbreaking scenes to date, and finally, you've got poor Matthew Crawley.
The worst thing about Matthew Crawley's death was that he died right after his wife gave birth to their child. To make matters worse, it was Christmas Day. Seriously, who decided that would make great television? Nobody wants to watch people die on Christmas Day.
His death brought so many complaints that writers had to defend themselves by saying that it was the only credible exit they could think of. How wrong they were. In fact, fans were so angry about it that Dan Stevens (who played Matthew Crawley) is still apologizing for it to this day.
