8. Madeline Wuntch - Brooklyn Nine-Nine
In Brooklyn Nine-Nine's season seven episode "Ding Dong," it's revealed that Captain Holt's (Andre Braugher) fierce rival and NPYD commissioner Madeline Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick) died under ambiguous circumstances.
Memorably appearing in a dozen episodes from season two onwards, Wuntch brought the absolute worst out of Holt in the most hilarious way due to their chequered personal history.
When Holt learns of Wuntch's passing, he initially believes that it's yet another prank intended to make a fool of him, and doesn't seem to take the news in until he actually views her corpse for himself.
Even in death, though, Wuntch tried to ruin Holt's life by insisting that he provide the eulogy at her memorial service, knowing that he'd struggle not to badmouth her and possibly end up losing his job in the process.
As sad as it is that Wuntch appears to be gone forever, it was nothing if not a fitting send-off for the character.
And let's face it, there's always the possibility for the show to reveal her demise as an elaborate fake-out if they're ever desperate to bring Sedgwick back for more japes.
