Method Of Death

Burned.

Why It Was Undeserved

Shireen Baratheon (Kerry Ingram) was one of Game of Thrones' few genuinely, unambiguously innocent characters, a sweet young girl dealt a terrible fate by being unlucky enough to be the daughter of Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane).

In an attempt to appease the Lord of Light at the behest of Melisandre (Carice van Houten), Stannis has his daughter tied to a pyre and immolated in front of his army.

Between poor Shireen's realisation of what's about to happen, her blood-curdling screams as she burns and the slow-dawning horror on her mother Selyse's (Tara Fitzgerald) face, it's the most brutal and heartbreaking death on the entire show, despite being one of the least visually graphic.

The fact that it was ultimately all for nothing only makes it that much worse. Game of Thrones hasn't shied away from nauseating deaths for likeable characters, and killing children was hardly a new trick for the show at this point, but Shireen was among the least-worthy of such a vile fate.
