10 TV Deaths That Totally Trolled Audiences

7. Rita Morgan - Dexter

Family Guy Brian Death
Showtime

If there's one series that didn't shy away from killing people off, it was Dexter. The premise of the show centered around a serial killer who hunted and killed other murderers, with the climax of each episode being the murder of his quarry, so death wasn't a novel concept in Dexter's world.

The thing about death in Dexter was that it didn't impact Dexter personally. He became a serial killer due to a childhood trauma, where he witnessed his mother's death and was left in a pool of her blood. That trauma made him into the man he grew up to be, but other than that, it wasn't often personal.

Then, season four brought forth the Trinity Killer, played by John Lithgow. Dexter's fascination with his ability to maintain a normal family life brought him a bit too close to his intended victim, and when he finally killed him, the dying man smiled, as if he knew something Dexter didn't.

When Dexter returned home, he found the body of his wife, Rita, sitting in a bathtub filled with her own blood. On the floor beside her was the couple's child, sitting in a pool of his mother's blood. The scene not only reenacted the one that gave birth to Dexter's dark side, but it also managed to troll the Audience with a major death in the form of a cliffhanger that provided many more questions than it answered.
