10 TV Episodes You Didn't Know Were Filmed By Famous Hollywood Directors

9. Community €“ Richard Ayoade

Episode: "Critical Film Studies" You probably know him best as Moss on The IT Crowd, or as I like to think of it, the better British version of The Big Bang Theory. But Richard Ayoade is also a director, with critical successes with Submarine and last year's The Double. He's responsible for the brilliant "Critical Film Studies" episode in the second season. It's one of the best showcases for Community: a mash up of My Dinner with Andre and Pulp Fiction that delivers on witty dialogue and sincerity simultaneously. The fact that it manages to capture the friendship between Jeff and Abed, not to mention the rest of the study group, in such a way that we're laughing and seeing heartfelt emotion that has a sentimental flourish but without diverging into mawkishness is a testament not only to the writers, but to Ayoade's nuanced directing.
