10 TV Fan Favourites Who Suffered Shockingly Brutal Deaths
7. Robb Stark/Catelyn Stark - Game of Thrones
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the Red Wedding on Game of Thrones is one of the most violent and emotionally draining death sequences in the history of television. It's not just one beloved character meeting their end that, we could handle. It's a bloody massacre. First there's Robb Stark's sweet, innocent wife, guilty of nothing more than being a character in a George R.R. Martin adaptation and marrying into the Stark family with its appallingly high mortality rate, who is gutted like a fish along with her unborn child. Then there's Robb himself, who is probably one of the most noble and genuinely good characters in the entire series. But he broke a promise to David Bradley, so it's curtains for him. And Catelyn Stark, the matriarch, who isn't perfect but is so incredibly human she gets to watch her son killed before her eyes, and only then is she murdered. But the absolute worst part of all is how close Arya was to her entire family while they were being slaughtered. In the immortal words of Taylor Swift, we are never ever ever getting back together. It was a bloodbath unprecedented in television, and it left viewers emotionally ravaged for days. This was an episode that was so brutal, audiences felt the need to physically recover after watching it.
