10 TV Fan Favourites Who Suffered Shockingly Brutal Deaths
6. Lane Pryce - Mad Men
I think everyone had a soft spot in their heart for the mild-mannered, oh-so-damaged Englishman who meekly stepped into a management role at Sterling Cooper (Draper Pryce). If they didn't love him at the beginning, they certainly did after he had an old-timey brawl and beat the ever-loving cr*p out of Pete Campbell. Despite the fact that Lane was a successful businessman and a partner at a thriving advertising agency, he definitely had more than his share of problems. A marriage on the rocks, money trouble, an abusive father who likes nothing more than emasculate him, you name it the 60s were no walk in the part for Mr. Pryce. And as the pressure began to mount, he found himself resorting to increasingly desperate measures, including stealing from the company. When Don uncovered his secret, he gave him the option to run away and start over. It's easy to see how Don saw this as a gift. After all, Don loves nothing more than to reinvent himself. But for a depressed and broken man, it felt less like a blessing and more like a cage. So, out of options, Lane hanged himself in his office. It's a horrible way to go, but what made it particularly gruesome was the way they filmed the discovery of his body. Starkly shot and realistic, we realize exactly what has happened when Joan struggles to open his office door, because there's something in the way: the gray-faced body of one of Mad Men's most interesting characters.
