Perhaps no single TV series over the last 20 years has been as wildly speculated and theorised about as Lost, with the intensely passionate fanbase coming up with many alluring fan theories that were ultimately far more interesting than the flat finale we ended up with.

Among them all is the theory that the light at the center of the island (aka the "Heart of the Island") is actually time itself.

Jacob's mother (Allison Janney) explains that the light is a physical manifestation of "life, death, and rebirth," and that a portion of the light lives inside every human being, yet that they "always want more."

Sure sounds like time, doesn't it?

The full theory is extremely elaborate and detailed, making a passionate argument that the light being time makes sense in the context of the story, its characters, and its themes.

It certainly makes no less sense that what Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse gave us in the end, and is a good deal more intriguing to boot.
