10 TV Finales That Made You Embarrassed You Ever Cared

6. Dexter - Remember The Monsters?

Lost Finale Jack Locke
Showtime

The psychological thriller (with a pinch of comedy) series Dexter went a bit off the rails after its superb fourth season. With many fans agreeing the show should have ended when Rita was found in the bathtub, if the show were to continue it should have concluded with one very specific thing- Dexter finally getting caught.

The smoking gun was set up in the very first episode, but after eight sporadic seasons not only did fans get what they expected, but the ambiguous ending left nothing to the audience' imaginations. We KNOW Dexter would continue killing! Living in isolation solves nothing.

Maybe it's because the big, triumphant move Dexter makes in the season eight finale is to euthanize his sister Deb? A situation only brought on because she was shot by a forgotten adversary who made no impact on the eighth season whatsoever.

But maybe it's also because Dexter fakes his death; using a hurricane as cover as he drives his boat into the impending storm- with no one chasing him by the way. The series ends with Dexter effectively getting away with his crimes, living to kill another day in isolation as a lumberjack.

No catharsis or payoff whatsoever.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
