10 TV Friendships That Wouldn't Work In Real Life
1. Brenda Walsh And Kelly Taylor (Beverly Hills, 90210)
A classic teen soap opera which aired for ten seasons and followed the lives of its protagonists from high school all the way through certified adulthood. The original premise of twin brother and sister moving to Beverly Hills from Minnesota and navigating the glamorous lifestyle kind of got lost considering Shannen Doherty left after only four seasons, but the friendships her character made along the way shaped the backbone of the show. Unfortunately, it wasn't always in a good way.
Brenda and Kelly's friendship was never the smoothest running one. The girls have always been shown to compete with one another in subtle ways which sometimes would turn out hilarious (such as in the prom episode where they wear the same dress). Brenda has a tendency to look down on Kelly because of her sometimes shallow and boy-obsessed ways while Kelly is jealous of Brenda's family because of her own mother's lack of support.
One can't talk about these two without mentioning the main wedge in their friendship - Dylan McKay. Way back in Season 1, Kelly asks Dylan out despite him already dating Brenda at the time. That's nothing on the affair the two of them have the summer Brenda's away in France with Donna. While the pair have been having struggles at that point, Kelly had no excuse to go behind her best friend's back. And then there's the fact that she continues to date Dylan all throughout season 4 and has the audacity to get insecure about his and Brenda's friendship. Though considering how their relationship started, it's really no surprise.
In the show reboot, 90210, the girls are shown to have the same problems in their dynamic even after so many years, which really removes this friendship from 'ultimate goals' list.
