10 TV Friendships That Wouldn't Work In Real Life

8. Rae Earl And Chloe Gemell (My Mad Fat Diary)

Skins 2007
Channel 4

The British teen comedy-drama focuses on Rae Earl, an overweight 16-year-old girl who has spent four months in a psychiatric hospital dealing with her mental issues regarding her appearance. The series focuses on Rae making new friendships and forming a romantic relationship Finley 'Finn' Nelson. Another important point of the show is her friendship with Chloe, the popular girl from her childhood, which is actually far from perfect.

At the start Chloe is shown to be quite superficial and self absorbed, all too willing to make Rae look bad in order to make herself better since she is jealous of Rae's natural charisma. Even when Rae gets sexually harassed at a party, Chloe refuses to leave with her and stays with an older man. Rae, in turn, doesn't actually support Chloe that much when she is revealed to have deeper issues as she is too involved with her own turmoil. She also often lashes out at Chloe because of her mental state.

The girls patch things up by the end but it does ask the question: how can a friendship work if you don't really know the other person that well?
