Doctor Who still doesn't have the largest budget, but it's Game of Thrones-esque when compared to what it had to work with way back in 1963. The constraints meant there wasn't time to combat mistakes, which included the performance of First Doctor William Hartnell.

The actor made so many flubs that they couldn't possibly redo the scenes, and eventually co-star William Russel (Ian) got so good at riffing on the mistakes that it was written into the script that Hartnell would mispronounce something (and there are even moments when you can catch the Doctor correcting himself).

All of this led to a scene where Russel's character Ian is choking, and viewers who were so accustomed to the mistakes thought they'd actually recorded the actor choking in real life, rather than the scripted scene it actually was.
