10 TV Mistakes You Can’t Unsee

7. Michael Scott, Invisible Man - The Office

X Files Mulder
NBC

None of us want to roast the beloved US sitcom institution The Office when this NBC behemoth brought us so many laughs and tears over the years—and also gave us those two post-Steve Carrell seasons for some reason. But as great as the cult series and its ensemble cast was, the show did manage to commit one cardinal sin that guaranteed its inclusion on this list—featuring a glaring screw up in its very first episode.

Yes, way back in 2005, the pilot of The Office featured the first onscreen face-off between Michael Scott and his boss/ on-off love interest the ice queen Jan, and the pair argued spiritedly in his office whilst his employees Jim and Dwight sat outside watching—well, nothing in particular, because numerous wide shots during this scene reveal that Michael’s office is actually empty.

The portions of the episode were presumably filmed separately, which isn’t uncommon practice in shows with such a large cast, but gives the scene a weirdly Beckettian feel we’re pretty sure wasn’t intentional.
