10 TV Moments Everyone Misunderstood As Kids
3. Vastra & Jenny - Doctor Who
Doctor Who is a great British TV institution, and one which invites scores of families to gather around the TV every week to soak in all the daft sci-fi shenanigans.
As such, it's unsurprising that writer Steven Moffat was unable to resist the occasional opportunity to make parents explain to their kids why they're laughing at a seemingly humourless, innocent moment.
The season six episode "A Good Man Goes to War" features a scene where Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) says to her assistant/wife Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart), "I don't know why you put up with me."
A moment later, Vastra uses her absurdly long tongue to incapacitate a bothersome prisoner, after which the two lovers share a lingering, suggestive glance.
To adults, the implication is obvious, while kids will just assume Jenny's admiring the awesomeness of that tongue attack. Which, in a sense, she is.
