10 TV Plot Twists EVERYONE Guessed

9. Dr. Gellar Is Dead - Dexter

Game of Thrones
Showtime

The Doomsday Killings were a major plotline during the sixth season of Dexter. These bible-based murders were all seemingly committed in preparation for the end of the world and were conducted by deranged student Travis Marshall and his mentor Dr. James Gellar.

Well, sort of.

Gellar was the main suspect of Dexter's investigations into the murders, but this theory was debunked quite dramatically when a crucial piece of evidence was unearthed: Gellar's dead body stuffed into a freezer.

The former university lecturer had been dead for years, murdered by Travis in a failed bid to prove his immortality. Unable to cope with what he had done, Travis kept his teacher's body and hallucinated him throughout the series.

Everyone and their dog had figured out Gellar wasn't alive long before it was revealed. He never actually did anything physical, always making Travis do it, and the whole "psychopath manifesting a dead person" trope was well past its prime at this point.

It became excruciating to watch Dexter and his team fail to spot this obvious truth every week and what could have been a real exciting storyline on the show became a joke. And not a funny one.
