2004's Battlestar Galactica had plenty of brooding mysteries, mind-blowing epiphanies, and WTF twists. And more often than not, hot-headed Viper pilot Kara "Starbuck" Thrace played a part in many of the show's defining moments.

One of the most emotional scenes is when Starbuck's ship flies out of control and explodes, giving the prized pilot no means to survive. Three episodes later, she returns with her body and ship miraculously intact. Even though she's been missing for months, Starbuck believes she was only gone for a few hours. Stranger still, Starbuck claims she's located Earth, which her fleet have been seeking for years.

How did Starbuck find it? Where did she disappear to? How did she survive blowing up in space? Anyone expecting these questions to be answered are sure to be disappointed.

Arriving on Earth, the fleet discover the world has been decimated by nuclear war. Just when things look like they couldn't get more depressing, Starbuck discovers her blown up ship... with her corpse inside. Adding to the confusion, Starbuck literally vanishes into thin air while speaking to her friend shortly after.

So, what does it all mean? Was Starbuck a ghost? An angel? Something else altogether? Though there are countless fan-theories on the topic, there isn't a single concrete answer.
