10 TV Scenes Shot For Real
5. Murdock's Prison Break - Daredevil
Netflix's Daredevil was a major breath of fresh air for both the MCU and superhero fare as a whole, best exemplified by its uncommonly creative and technically impressive approach to action.
Though Daredevil delivered faux-single-take sequences in its earlier seasons - such as season one's much-loved three-minute hallway fight - the season three episode "Blindsided" dished up a near-11-minute scene which was genuinely shot as a single, unbroken take.
The sequence includes numerous fight scenes as Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fends off both inmates and guards alike, while also containing tricky elements like blood, fire, explosions, gas, and dozens of extras, not to mention a lengthy dialogue scene in the middle of it all.
But incredibly, the scene really was pulled off as a "one-r," as explained by showrunner Erik Oleson:
"I had built in some places where we could've hidden cuts if it didn't work, like the darkened hallway where he's looking up and the red lights are flashing. But instead, in post-production, I insisted on using a true one-take and I lightened that hallway so that the audience can see that there are no hidden cuts."
Incredibly, the entire scene was shot in a standard 12-hour day of filming, with Charlie Cox reportedly doing about 80% of the stunt work himself, while a professional was sneakily subbed in for a few rougher moments during the fight. Incredible.
