10 TV Scenes Shot For Real
4. The Chandelier Crash - Only Fools & Horses
When discussing the greatest moments in the history of British TV comedy, you can't not mention the immortal chandelier gag from Only Fools and Horses' second season episode "A Touch of Glass."
The scene in question sees Del (David Jason) and Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) preparing to catch a priceless chandelier being hammered out of the ceiling by Grandad (Lennard Pearce).
However, Granded ends up nailing the adjacent chandelier instead, which promptly falls to the floor and shatters, much to Del and Rodney's horror - and the audience's amusement.
Though the production didn't in fact acquire a truly priceless chandelier to shoot the scene, they did nevertheless spend a massive £6,000 out of their modest budget to buy a high-quality replica.
Due to the expense, the scene could only be shot once, and director Ray Butt reportedly threatened to fire Nicholas Lyndhurst if he blew the take by laughing.
Hilariously, though, Butt actually found himself unable to stifle his own laughter during shooting, having to shove a handkerchief in his mouth and leave the room until the shot was finished.
