10 TV Show Comic Spin-Offs That Are Surprisingly Awesome

5. Doctor Who

Doctor Who comics have existed for almost the same amount of time as the show itself. In 1964, one year after the show was created, you would be able to read comic strips in various magazines showing the First Doctors adventures. Unsurprisingly these strips aren't exactly the best content out there and not necessary reading.

A better starting point would be The Eleventh Doctor: The Complete First Year. It collects the first year of issues penned by Al Ewing (known from Judge Dredd and Immortal Hulk). He takes his knowledge of Sci-Fi and uses it to create some of the craziest stories to feature the Eleventh Doctor. Along with this, his great characterisation of Matt Smith will make it easy to hear his distinctive voice in your head as you read.

Another great high concept issue is The Many Lives of the Doctor, which takes place during the regeneration of Capaldi to Whittaker. We see the Doctor shift between forms as they relive their lives and form a new one.
