In a show that contains a prevalent mystery from the outset, or the second season in this case, there is one crucial factor in making it cohesive, if not memorable: the juice has to be worth the squeeze. Pretty Little Liars, on the surface, adheres to the memorable element, but not because it adhered to the Golden rule.

And if you're unaware of why this is, you must've strayed extremely far away from social media in 2017.

The revolving door plot of a secret conspirator called "A" seemed to be laid to rest in the final episode of season 2, only for it to be quickly exhumed for the proceeding season, and just like a rotting corpse, it wasn't as enticing as it once was.

As the predecessor holding the moniker of "A" in season 2 was now deceased, someone else slipped into their shoes - colloquially known as "big A" - who died in the final season.

So, they revived the story beat again, despite the heart of it not beating much at all, as they opted to bring in a character at the drop of a hat, with no prior build-up, but a rapid resolution as she was apparently the twin sister of one of the main protagonists which absolutely wreaks of a complete lack of inspiration.
