10 TV Show Finales That Totally Divided Fanbases
2. The Sopranos
Upon release, the anticipation of the finale must've pulled a veneer tightly over the eyes of those watching, as in hindsight, the widely awaited end to Tony Soprano's legendary story was largely misunderstood for years.
After being berated to the point of bereavement in pop culture over the years, by lesser shows such as Family Guy for its abrupt cut to black in the middle of a scene, a lot have come to appreciate the ambiguity for its intentions rather than its lack of closure.
Many have theorised the philosophical ending over the years, with a multitude of different outcomes being alleged to be true. The remainder of those not speculating were instead bewildered in their assessment of what is widely considered the greatest show doing them dirty.
The most commonly acknowledged theory is that Tony died in the offscreen imminent exchange, and as he basks in the comfort of his family in a familiar setting, he's gone to his "happy place" in death. But, of course, this is only one of an astounding amount of theories out there.
It seems like absolutely nothing surrounding this finale will ever be agreed upon by loyalists. Except for the inexplicably exceptional quality of the show overall.
