10 TV Show Scenes With INSANE Implications

2. Buffy Gets The Class Protector Award - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Throughout Buffy's run, fans have often commented upon the fact that the residents of Sunnydale must be acutely aware of the supernatural shenanigans haranguing their town, and yet nobody ever talks about it.

But this was quite slyly addressed in the season three episode "The Prom," where Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) wins the Class Protector award, with Sunnydale High's student body writing-in the award to thank her for protecting the school from monsters.

The scene lasts just a few minutes, but makes it clear beyond any doubt that Sunnydale's residents know about the horrors infesting their town, yet seem to have collectively agreed not to discuss it on a daily basis.

It can certainly be interpreted as a form of widespread denial, that everyone knows, at least subconsciously, what's going on in the town, but for the sake of their sanity they opt to put it to the back of their minds.

Sure, it's basically just hand-waving the fact that, in reality, nobody would ever stick around in Sunnydale - no matter how cheap the housing is - but it's certainly a unique odd and fascinating way of doing it.
