10 TV Show Twists Absolutely EVERYONE Hated
1. Matricide (How I Met Your Mother)
This show was built on a simple promise: Ted, the narrator, is telling his kids the story of how he met their mother, and if you watch for long enough, you’ll find out, too. This gave the once-proud sitcom a license to outstay its welcome, but as the show reached its ninth and final season, the finish line was in sight. We wanted the facts, and we weren’t leaving without them.
That the mother turned up for the final season before quickly being killed off was annoying enough. The ever-delightful Cristin Milioti manages to make a character out of very little to work with, but it’s hard to form too much of an emotional attachment to the mother after she’s been built up for years and then quickly killed as they race to the finish.
The next twist is even worse: after concluding his story, Ted’s kids suggest that he remains in love with Robin, and the pair reconcile, caked in pretty bad ageing makeup.
It was supposed to be a joyous moment, but we’ve seen that this couple don’t work time and again. Had they left it at Ted meeting the mother, it would have been perfectly fine, but they had to keep throwing out those curveballs, and they didn’t land.
