10 TV Shows That Would Have Been Better Off As Anthologies

6. How I Met Your Mother

Now, I'll be one of the first folks to defend HIMYM as it is - but I also think that the premise could work separate from the current cast of characters. So do the folks at CBS, judging from their pilot order for the Greta Gerwig fronted inversion of the show, How I Met Your Dad. Imagine the show as an anthology series where, rather than subjecting poor Ted Mosby to every relationship in the book, good or bad, we saw different lead characters experience aspects of the current show every season. And what about putting the characters into different settings as well each year? HIMYM is about New York almost as much as it's about the main characters - so imagine a version of the show in Chicago, or Los Angeles, or even a smaller town somewhere in New England or the Midwest? All relationships are different, and presenting the show as a comedy anthology could explore that almost endlessly.
