10 TV Shows That Would Have Been Better Off As Anthologies
3. Joan Of Arcadia
Here we've got another show that worked well in its own right, but may have lasted longer and explored its premise even further with an anthology-style approach. Joan of Arcadia aired on CBS back from 2003-2005, and aside from popularising Joan Osborne's music via its theme song, the show told the story of Joan Girardi, a teenager who is visited by God in various guises. What made the show remarkable in terms of its spiritual nature was its ability to explore matters of faith and everyday life in realistic ways, without espousing a particular religion or ideology. Approaching a show like this one as an anthology would open the doors to all sorts of exploration of faith and religion in the world, and a rotating cast of characters would provide the chance to examine a huge variety of traditions, from Christianity to Buddhism, Islam, and beyond.
