10 TV Shows That Would Have Been Better Off As Anthologies

2. Dollhouse

From the mind of Joss Whedon, Dollhouse was yet another series that fell victim to the machinations of FOX network executives. Forced into a much more serialised, story-of-the-week format than originally planned by the creative team behind it, the show struggled through two thirteen-episode seasons before being cancelled. At the heart of the show were the moral dilemmas created by its central premise: 'dolls', or humans who consented to having their memories artificially implanted and removed, are rented out to various high paying customers. In the mythos of the show, there are numerous dollhouses scattered around the country and the world - which makes it an ideal candidate for an anthology series. Keeping the central premise of the Dollhouse, but shifting to a new locale with each season, would afford the chance for different characters and themes to be explored.
