1. Firefly
In the 2002-03 season there was a show that ran for fourteen episodes, was aired out of production order in different time slots and with very little network support. In spite of these hurdles, Firefly found a loyal fanbase and is arguably the most popular science fiction show since Star Trek. Like Star Trek its experienced a feature film revival in 2005 with the film Serenity, but unlike the senior franchise, Firefly has since passed into memory. The story of the crew of
Serenity-a misfit group of smugglers comprised of war veterans, a mercenary, a preacher, a doctor and his sister, a brilliant pilot, a plucky engineer and a courtesan-was short lived but was so memorable that a little simply isnt enough. Show creator Joss Whedon has gone on to massive success with Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and more recently with The Avengers but no matter what hes promoting, Firefly is the project hes most often asked about. Fans want more, and flock to everything that relates to the show whether it is a continuation of the story as a graphic novel or the appearance of Nathan Fillion in his Mal Reynolds guise on his most recent show, Castle. The cast and crew all hold their work on Firefly in very high regard and perhaps the most baffling part of Fireflys tale is that everyone seems to want to return but it has yet to happen. At the 2012 San Diego Comic Con, Whedon responded to a fan query with interest in reviving the series as a radio show so there is hope for the Browncoats yet. What do you think of these shows?
