9. Roseanne
Main Character Missing: Roseanne Barr (1 Episode, technically).
Which Episode?: "Single Married Female" (Season 7, Episode 18).
Is It Still Good?: Yes. Surprisingly, there is an episode of Roseanne without Roseanne. The in-episode explanation of this is due to the fact that she is visiting her aunt Barbara, and Dan cannot contact her due to aunt Barbara being pretty much deaf. The real world explanation was that Roseanne was pregnant, and from her explanation given (which we'll get to in a minute), she seems to imply that she was practically forced to spend time away from the set and in bed. Whilst Roseanne Conner does not make an appearance throughout the episode, the actress herself provides a brief two minute monologue at the end of the show in which she explains to the children watching the show about where babies come from (hint: it's not the conventional way, but it's true and nothing filthy enough that you wouldn't let your toddler hear it). As such, the episode is lead by Dan (John Goodman), who does a superb job of driving the plot forward on his own along with most of the other regulars such as Jackie, DJ, the Healy's, Beverly, Fred and Leon. There's also a pretty funny cameo by Joseph Gordon-Levitt as DJ's friend. Definitely give this episode a watch, it's a fun change in family dynamic and it's necessary to the overall plot of the season too, so it's not just filler until Roseanne can come back again.
