10 TV Shows Everyone Should Watch At Least Once

8. The Terror

Now for a lesser known production that was held back on exclusive viewing platforms. Based on the novel by Dan Simmons, this criminally underrated series features a harrowing and bleak tale of the doomed Franklin Expedition to the Northwest Passage in the 1800s.

The British Empire, confident of their inevitable victory and intent on finding a faster route to Asia, find themselves caught in a deadly struggle against both the elements and an elusive monster that stalks them across the ice. Think Master and Commander crossed with John Carpenter's The Thing and you get one of the creepiest small-screen tales in recent years.

There's a bit of cheating here as The Terror's second season wasn't as strong, but taken as one standalone story, this first outing is incredibly effective.

With great performances from the likes of Jared Harris and Ciaran Hinds alongside a very impressive attention to detail, this series offers a creeping dread that has worn thin in contemporaries like The Walking Dead, while maintaining its high authenticity.

As the crew of HMS Terror and Erebus are cut down one by one and lose their sanity in the process, you'll be hooked on this atmospheric chiller all the way through.
